Controlled Identities and Displaced Narratives

This photographic series highlights the lives of people living with hidden identities in controlled environments. In many conservative societies, personal beliefs, religious questions, and true orientations must stay guarded within the heart. Similarly, the refugee journey often strips individuals of their national identity.

By shooting from behind or masking the subject in shadow, these photographs strip away traditional portrait markers like race, nationality, and facial expression. The viewer is forced to look instead at the posture, the clothing, and the environment. These images ask a profound question about human existence: if a person vanishes or passes away without official documentation, does the city notice? This work serves as a voice for the unrecorded, seeking purpose and belonging across borders.
