The Chromatic Angel

The Chromatic Angel: Celebrating Kindness and Reclaiming Pride

The journey toward self-acceptance is rarely a straight line. Often, our artwork reflects the exact state of our internal healing. My piece, The Chromatic Angel, began its life as a quiet, black-and-white ink sketch during a period when I was still processing internalized stigma regarding my gender identity and orientation. As that shame faded and turned into genuine pride, the canvas underwent an explosion of color.

Redefining the Sacred

In this colored pencil sketch, my hair remains a deep black, while the rest of the portrait is filled with vibrant neon tones. Above the head rests a glowing golden angel ring, but the traditional wings are placed on the head rather than the back. From the golden halo, a beautiful garland of rainbow strings cascades into the background. This imagery reclaims sacred, spiritual symbols for diverse individuals, showing that grace belongs to everyone.

Kindness as a Universal Currency

The core message of The Chromatic Angel is the universality of human kindness. Society often rejects gender-diverse individuals when they showcase their true identity or faith background. However, true kindness is a universal language. When an individual acts with genuine love and empathy, those actions transcend human bias. This artwork stands as a colorful symbol of peace, proving that when we shed our internal armor, we can shine in every color of the spectrum.
